Lens of Time
Lens of Time
Time changes our perspective as our perspective also tends to change over time. This collage is inspired by a well-traveled, vintage Leica camera that has become a family heirloom. Its’ lens has captured a wealth of snapshots, moments and memories over the years. Now it lives in my home, quietly witnessing the daily rituals of family life from a place of honor at the top of the stairs. I am fascinated by its efficient mechanics, elegant beauty and remarkable history. The way the world takes pictures has changed dramatically since this camera was built. Engineered as a precision instrument, it has withstood the test of time and still maintains its form and function. How do the tools we use shape how we see the world? How much of our memory is veiled by nostalgia? Can we ever truly capture the present with enough context so that it is understandable to future generations? Perhaps it is only possible to honor each moment for the gift that it is and then release it to the passing of time.
